Respiratory support. Mullein leaf is commonly used for asthma, cough, colds, pneumonia, bronchitis or any lung condition that requires opening airways and loosening phlegm.
Great Mullein is an easily identifiable plant in the Verbascum family, common on the Kansas prairies. Fuzzy gray green leaves form a basal rosette that the following year produce stately towering stalks reaching upwards of 4 feet or more and producing yellow flowers. The flowers are used to make earache oil.
We often look for the characteristics of a plant in its health benefits for us. Mullein is a mighty plant ally, demonstrating resilience and strength, thriving in poor conditions and compacted soils. When we consume these plants it's believed that instill these same attributes of vitality and powerful perseverance against all odds.
Historically the leaves were referred to by early colonists as 'cowboy toilet paper' or the wide fuzzy leaves used to line shoes for insulation and cushion. Folk herbalism associates mullein with protection and the stalks were used to make torches.

A tincture is a strong concentrate of herbs infused in an alcohol menstruum for 6 weeks or more. Similar to a tea, but the alcohol extracts more potently all the beneficial constituents of the herb. A half dropperful under the tongue daily for two weeks for best results.
